Del Rio football returns to work Friday afternoon.
After what was deemed by head coach Rod Taylor as a successful parents meeting Tuesday, the 2021-22 Rams will hit the field for the first time Friday afternoon when the team kicks off spring practice at 4:15 p.m. at Walter Levermann Ram Stadium.
The team has been undergoing COVID screenings this week and everything should be in order for the players to hit the field. Taylor said 109 people attended the first parents meeting of the new season Tuesday, with about 50 families represented overall.
Spring football is just one of the things ushering in a new season for Rams football. The program’s annual camps return this summer beginning in July.
The Rising 3rd – 6th Grade Camp runs from July 19 to July 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. daily, at Walter Levermann Ram Stadium.
The following week, the Rising 7th – 9th Grade Camp begins July 26 and continues through July 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. daily, also at Walter Levermann Ram Stadium.
Cost for each camp is $20.
Parents interested in enrolling their kids, or parents that have any questions, can contact Taylor at (940) 257-8531. They can also contact defensive coordinator Nick Mendez at (210) 396-0485, special teams coordinator Rick Torres at (830) 469-8861, first assistant coach Martin Sandate at (830) 734-4722, or offensive coordinator Davin Hawkins at (256) 490-9366.
The Rams are coming off a 4-5 season, but they went 4-2 in District 30-6A and finished third overall, earning their first trip to the playoffs since the 2016 season and first under Taylor as head coach.
