Del Rio’s Fourth of July weekend kicks off Friday with food and fun on South Main Street.
¡Vida! Del Rio and First Friday Art Walk invite the whole community to Freedom Fest set for South Main Street from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, July 2.
Attendees are being invited “to kick off the Del Rio Rotary Independence Day Rodeo at Mesquite Creek Outfitters, head down to Brown Plaza and dance the night away at Noches Musicales provided by the Casa De La Cultura and get some shopping done at the Shops on Main, while enjoying some great food from local food trucks and vendors on South Main Street,” according to event publicity.
The following galleries and museums will be open for the event in the city’s historic downtown area:
- Falcon Art Gallery, 301 E. Garfield Ave.
- Laughlin Heritage Foundation Museum, 309 S. Main St.
- Firehouse Gallery/ Del Rio Council for the Arts, 120 E. Garfield Ave.
- David Forks Art Studio, 401 Griner St.
- Casa De La Cultura, 302 Cantu St.
There will be a complimentary shuttle service between exhibits, with the free shuttle stopping in the parking lots of the Nuvani Beauty School, the Shops on Main, the Casa De La Cultura and the Falcon Art Gallery. The last drop off at the Falcon Art Gallery will be at 9 p.m. Friday.
The Rustic Sunflower will present two children’s art classes at 6:30 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the historic Kress Building, located in the 700 block of South Main Street.
There is room for 15 children per class, and children who want to participate in the classes must pre-register by calling the Del Rio Council for the Arts at 830-775-3551.
Children ages 7 and up must be accompanied during a parent while in the class.
There is a $10 fee per child for the art kits that will be used during the classes.
The Kress Building is also set to host several vendors during the event, including the Blooming Cactus Boutique, Marcos Mares and Juan Gomez. The building will also feature a variety of children’s artwork.
Several South Main shops will be open during Freedom Fest, including Miles Away From Nowhere, La Florentina, which will feature work from artists Rocco Ramon and Eligio Flores; The Balloon Bar, Casa Bella and Lemon Drop, which will feature local muralist Bianka Santillan.
Mesquite Creek Outfitters, 800 S. Main St., will host a Rotary Rodeo kick-off party beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Dozens of local vendors will participate in the Freedom Fest event, and a number of local food trucks will also be on hand, including Aguas De Los Cielos, Alonso’s Tacos, Armpit of Texas, B-Daddy’s, Contrails Coffee, D&G Filipino Food, Rylee’s Roadhouse, Birria Tacos by Nanca, Raspa King and Hotdog Heaven.
