No one was injured when a train ran into a tractor-trailer stuck on a railroad crossing just south of the city limits this morning.
Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Waylon Bullard told the 830 Times VVSO deputies were dispatched to the railroad crossing at Farley Lane at 9:50 a.m. today to assist with traffic control.
Bullard said an 18-wheeler was crossing the railroad tracks over Farley Lane when the large vehicle became “high centered” on the tracks and was unable to drive off the tracks.
Bullard said an oncoming train attempted to stop, but was unable to do so. The train then crashed into the truck.
“Nobody was hurt in the collision,” Bullard said.
He said the several utility poles and transformers and signals at the crossing were damaged, causing temporary outages in the area.
Bullard said the Farley Lane crossing would be closed for an estimated six to 13 weeks while repairs are made there.
The chief deputy said Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are investigating the collision.
