SFDRCISD news release
Beginning Aug. 19, 2021, all students at SFDRCISD who ride the bus or any school vehicle to and from school will be required to wear a mask. This action is taken in response to the most recent spike in the number of COVID-19 related cases among school-aged students. Most recent figures from the Val Verde County Health Authority indicate that there are currently 33 active COVID-19 cases in the 0-9-year age group and 73 active cases in children between the ages of 10-19.
SFDRCISD is also increasing efforts to encourage staff, and students to wear masks while they are at school. In a letter to SFDRCISD staff, Dr. Carlos Rios directed all teachers to contact each parent or guardian, of their assigned or homeroom students and ask for their permission to enforce a mask mandate. Dr. Rios has further directed campus principals and teachers to maintain lists of students whose parents have provided their consent and actively enforce the wearing of masks. Dr. Rios added “I understand that some parents will not want to grant this permission. In these cases, the student will not be mandated to wear a mask and no further action will be taken. However, I trust that the majority of parents will cooperate with our efforts.”
