The return of high COVID-19 positivity rates within Del Rio have resulted in two of the community’s largest employers to issue their own mask mandates within the past 24 hours.
Tuesday night, the Del Rio City Council members voted unanimously to once again require face coverings inside all city facilities.
The 830 Times will have more information on the city’s mask mandate inside city facilities later today.
That decision followed on the heels of the San Felipe Del Rio CISD’s Board of Trustees voting 4-2 Tuesday night to approve a mandate making masks mandatory for employees, but not students. Students will have the option to wear masks or not when they attend in-person classes.
Last week, San Felipe Del Rio CISD Superintendent Dr. Carlos Rios issued an order requiring all students and staff to wear masks when traveling on school district vehicles.
According to the latest statistics released by Val Verde County Emergency Management, which were posted Aug. 23, there are 478 active cases of COVID in the county, and 190 new cases since the last report was published.
