A Del Rio native is going to be featured at this month’s First Friday art walk.
Coalson Brown, a Del Rio High School graduate who starred in track and cross country, and then went to do the same for West Texas A&M, has his photography on exhibit at the Pam Bunch Studio.
Brown, the son of Wayne and Shannon, graduated from West Texas A & M in 2019 with a degree in animal science. His dream, that is being fulfilled, is to work on ranches.
“I started taking pictures with my cell phone and then I finally got a big boy camera,” he said.
He bought a Canon Rebel T-6 in 2019 and upped his photography game.
“I really like documenting ranch life, watching men like my grandfather and other ranchers, I admire their world and I like helping people see the way ranch life is through my photography.”
Presently, he works for Texas A & M Agrilife Research Station, south of Sonora, where he is a foreman, doing everything from taking care of animals to mending fences. It also involves him patrolling the ranch in his trusty Ford F-150, with his camera bag at his side.
“When I see something I like, I stop and take a picture,” he said. A lot of the pictures people will see Friday at Pam Bunch is from when I worked at Dal Hart, Texas. I had to drive 30 to 40 minutes to work every day. I was always seeing something and I’d stop and just take a picture.
“Most of the landscape stuff tends to be a spur of the moment thing, I’ll see it and go, that’s cool,” he said.
The Lee-Bunch Studio Gallery is located at 100 West Greenwood St and will be open from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday.
A couple of blocks down the street at the Del Rio Council for the Arts Firehouse will be creator Suzette Pylant, who’s bio says she, “likes animals, especially dogs” will be presenting her Noble Dog collection.
Her art is a byproduct of her passion for researching historical figures, collecting old photographs, making color copies, and cutting and pasting them together, to create something unique.
Exhibiting this month at Casa de la Cultura will be several local artists.
Del Rio’s artist in residence, Adrian Falcon, is slated to have his gallery open as well.
Vida Del Rio and First Friday Art Walk organization have recruited 13 vendors and 9 food trucks for the Main Street area.
