SPORTS — Queens can’t hold lead against Laredo Nixon

Del Rio’s district volleyball woes continue.

The Queens are now the only team in 30-6A without a district win after falling to previous district winless team Laredo Nixon Tuesday in Laredo.

Del Rio won the first game in the match, 25-18, but then proceeded to drop the next three games – 16-25, 17-25, 19-25 – to drop to 0-3 in district competition and 12-12 overall.

Nixon improves to 1-3 in district play.

Defending district champions Laredo United, which defeated Del Rio here this past Saturday, remained unbeaten in district play with a 3-0 win over Laredo LBJ. United (4-0), which is now ranked 17th in the state, won 25-12, 25-15, 25-16. LBJ falls to 1-2 in district.

Also remaining perfect in district was Laredo Alexander, which beat Eagle Pass 3-0. Alexander (3-0) won 25-15, 25-14, 25-16. Eagle Pass falls to 2-2.

Laredo United South (1-2) had a bye Tuesday.

Del Rio will host Laredo Alexander Saturday at the Carl P. Guys Memorial Gymnasium beginning with sub-varsity at 11:30 a.m. Varsity is scheduled to play at 1 p.m.
