A 39-year-old inmate escaped from the Val Verde Correctional Facility at about 7 a.m. this morning and was recaptured by 9 a.m. at Moore Park, less than 3 miles from the jail.
September 14, Roque Martinez, was charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle and two counts of attempted murder. He escaped the detention facility during recreation time.
“We had our deputies, the marshalls, Texas Department of Public Safety, Del Rio Police Department, all trying to get this guy,” said Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez.
“When it comes to protecting our community, our law enforcement never hesitates to work together.”
