Two recognizable parts of the Del Rio community were honored recently by the state’s House of Representatives.
City of Del Rio Municipal Court Judge Eric Bayne and the national champion Amistad Eagle All-Stars Purple Reign cheer team were each honored with resolutions presented to them by Texas Representative Eddie Morales Jr., District 74.
Morales met with Bayne first.
Bayne, who has served the Del Rio Municipal Court since 2015 when he was appointed as an alternate municipal judge, was honored for his appointment to the council of the Municipal Judges Section of the State Bar of Texas.
“WHEREAS, Throughout his time on the bench, Eric Bayne has distinguished himself through his skill and dedication, and his appointment to this important leadership role is a reflection of the high esteem in which he his held by his colleagues,” the resolution read, in part.
Joining Morales and Bayne at the recognition ceremony were Del Rio City Councilmen Steven T. Webb and J.P. Sanchez.
From there, Morales and his companions, including his wife Hellen and legislative aide Jacob Ayers-Briseño, traveled to Border Federal Credit Union to present a resolution recognizing the Purple Reign cheer team for winning the national championship at the 2021 D2 Summit in May in Orlando, Fla.
The ceremony was a dual honor for the team as members of the squad were presented with their national championship rings by head coach DeeAnn Reavis, who also spoke a little about each girl present.
“WHEREAS, Through their head work, exceptional skill, and enduring commitment to excellence, he members of the AEA Purple Reign have proven themselves the best D2 cheer team in the nation, and they will treasure the memory of this momentous accomplishment for many years to come,” the resolution read, in part.
Members of the Amistad Eagles Purple Reign cheer team that were honored in the resolution included Lexa Acosta, Kayla Arreola, Lexi Bernal, Ray Calo Mia Cruz, Andrea Fernandez, Leanna Galindo, Paula Garza, Isabella Gonzales, Aly Guzman, Mia Hernandez, Alexa Leon, Amaris Leon, Ale Lugo, Alyssa Martinez, Paityn Mashburn, Maritza McNeal, Sofia Mireles, Andrea Padilla, Rylee Robinson, Isaac Rosas, Addie Weston and Katelynn Yancy, as well as head coach DeeAnn Reavis and assistant coaches Karina Galindo, Andie Perez and Haylee Reavis.
This was the second national championship for the Purple Reign squad.
