A Del Rio attorney is suing Tesla for more than $10 million on behalf of five Houston policemen.
Muery is principal partner of Muery & Farrell, located at 315 South Main, has partnered with one of Texas’s most well-known attorneys, Tony Buzbee in the suit.
“We are going up against Tesla and they have so many resources to come at us with, partnering with Tony Buzbee really helps us level the playing field,” Muery said.
The Sept. 21 press release announcing the lawsuit stated: “We filed a lawsuit today in Harris County state court (Houston) against Tesla on behalf of five police officers who allege they were severely injured when a Tesla vehicle on Autopilot failed to yield or “auto-steer” and crashed into the officers, their vehicles, a civilian and a police dog.
“The officers allege that the police vehicles were totaled, and the officers received medical treatment for severe injuries, continue to be treated and have suffered permanent disability. The lawsuit contends that the Autopilot mechanism sold and aggressively promoted as a feature on Tesla vehicles is defective in that it fails to detect vehicles that are using flashing lights, such as police vehicles. In the lawsuit, the officers detail multiple crashes involving emergency vehicles and Tesla vehicles using Autopilot.”
Muery, who offers law enforcement officers and first responders a 25-percent discount, became involved in the case because he was concerned the officers could end up having issues since they had a suspect in custody at the time of the crash.
“The more we dug into it, the more it became obvious there was more to this case,” he said.
Muery also has offices in Houston and Austin.
