A 37-year-old Del Rio man was arrested Oct. 22 on a family violence charge after police heard a woman yelling from inside his home.

Del Rio Police Department Senior Officer Dulce Gonzalez said Fernando Garcia, 36, 231 Cora Ave., was arrested and charged with the offense of assault causing bodily injury/family violence, a Class A misdemeanor.

Garcia was arrested after DRPD Cpl. Jesus Vargas was dispatched to Garcia’s residence at 10:20 a.m. on Oct. 22.

“Vargas had received information a female was being assaulted by a male subject at the residence. Due to exigent circumstances, Vargas, along with supervisors, proceeded to the residence to conduct a welfare check on the woman,” Gonzalez said.

“Upon arrival, the detectives attempted to make contact with her at the residence, but received no response. Detectives stayed at the residence and subsequently heard a female yelling from inside the residence, and at this point, forced entry was made into the residence,” Gonzalez added.

Inside, Garcia was taken into custody, and a woman on the premises displayed visible injuries.

The woman was not transported for medical treatment and was left with family members on-scene, Gonzalez said.
