The following reports were among those made to the Del Rio Police Department recently:

 

Burglary of a habitation

DRPD Officer Jacob Valadez was dispatched to a residence in the 4500 block of U.S. Highway 90 at 4:19 p.m. Nov. 2 after police received a call about a break-in at the residence. Valadez reported he spoke with Victor Meza, the resident, who told him someone broke into his home between Oct. 26 and the time police were called and stole a DeWalt drill set valued at $150. Meza also reported an estimated $240 in damage was done to a door and a lock during the break-in.

Burglary of a building

DRPD Officer Ivonne Carbajal was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of West Seventh Street at 7:29 p.m. Nov. 1 for a building burglary. Carbajal reported Ascencion Bazaldua, a resident of the 200 block of West Seventh Street, told her someone had entered a room connected to his garage without his permission and stolen a lime-green bag containing assorted power tools valued at $350. Bazaldua told the officer he believed the burglary occurred sometime between Oct. 29 and Nov. 1. The officer reported she could find no signs of forced entry.

Burglary of a vehicle

DRPD Officer Michael Palmer was dispatched to the Ramada Inn of Del Rio, 2101 Veterans Blvd., at 6:32 a.m. Nov. 2 after police received a call about a vehicle burglary. Palmer reported when he arrived, he spoke with Stephen Stiers and Wesley Braddy, both of Alvin, Texas. Stiers told police someone had taken items owned by the two men from the bed of his silver GMC Sierra pickup truck while it was parked in the north corner of the parking lot. Braddy reported the theft of two RTIC coolers, one a 145-quart cooler valued at $450 and the other a 30-can, 20-quart cooler valued at $100, as well as a black Craftsman combo tool set valued at $300. Stiers reported the theft of two black Stanley tool boxes, one containing a wrench set valued at $200 and the second containing a Craftsman wrench set valued at $500. Stiers said he believed the items were taken from the truck between 7 p.m. on Nov. 1 and 6 a.m. on Nov. 2.

DRPD Officer Ivonne Carbajal was dispatched to the Stripes convenience store, 1300 E. Gibbs St., at 10:02 p.m. Nov. 1 after police received a call about the theft of a wallet. Carbajal reported when she arrived, she spoke to Felicity Sterlie, who told the officer she had been inside the store and was going back to her car, a 2004 Honda Accord, parked outside the business. Sterlie reported she saw a man lean into the open driver’s side door of her vehicle and take the wallet, described as rainbow-colored, containing various debit and credit cards, her social security card, an identification card and an Iowa driver’s license, all valued at a total of $50. Sterlie said the man then went to a waiting car and drove off. She said the burglary of her car occurred just before she called police.

DRPD Officer Marcus Schwandner was dispatched to the parking lot outside H-E-B, 200 Veterans Blvd., at 7:03 p.m. Oct. 30 after police received a report about a dog stolen from a vehicle. Schwandner reported he spoke with Ruben Reyes, a resident of the 1000 block of Rancho Del Rio Road, who said someone opened the door of his white 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup while it was parked outside the store and stole his black and brown “blue heeler” dog valued at $200. Reyes told police he believed the dog was stolen between 11 a.m. and noon on Oct. 30.

Hit and run

DRPD Officer David Valdez was dispatched to an apartment complex in the 200 block of Fletcher Drive at 4:57 p.m. Nov. 2 after police were called about a hit-and-run at the property. Valdez reported when he arrived he spoke with Amanda Jones, who told him she had been asked by the landlord to report that an unknown vehicle struck two mailboxes in front of the apartment complex, causing an estimated $225 damage. Jones said she believed the damage was done between 4:55 a.m. and 4:57 a.m. Nov. 2.

Theft

DRPD Officer David Valdez was dispatched to the Border Patrol station, 2300 U.S. Highway 90, at 6:31 a.m. Nov. 2 after police received a report of a theft. Valdez reported Diana Brooks, a resident of Portland, Texas, and a Border Patrol employee, told him a pair of diamond stud earrings valued at $2,500 and perfume valued at $300 were taken from inside her suitcase while she was staying at the Ramada Inn of Del Rio, 2101 Veterans Blvd. Brooks reported the theft of her property occurred between 6 p.m. on Nov. 1 and 5:15 a.m. on Nov. 2.

Arson

DRPD Senior Officer Rolando Carbajal was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Diaz Street at 2:16 p.m. Nov.1 after police received a call about property damage. Carbajal reported when he arrived, he spoke with a resident, identified as Mary Gonzalez, who told him a man she knew had set fire to a mattress inside the residence, causing an estimated $500. Gonzalez said the incident occurred between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 and told the officer she believed the man who set the fire was intoxicated.
