Add three more wins to the Queens’ total this season.
Del Rio finished 3-1 in pool play at the Southside Girls Basketball Tournament before bowing out to Devine in bracket play Saturday morning.
The Queens lost to Lytle by two, but then beat Uvalde, Southside and San Antonio Memorial to close out pool play 3-1.
Del Rio’s record is now 6-6 on the season.
Lytle 57, Queens 55
A big second quarter by Lytle helped lead to a deficit the Queens just couldn’t overcome Thursday.
After being down 13-11 after the first quarter, Lytle outscored Del Rio 19-9 in the second quarter to build a 32-21 lead at the break.
But the Queens turned things around in the third quarter, outscoring Lytle 19-10 behind eight points from Laila Betancourt.
That two-point deficit in the aftermath of the third quarter proved to be the difference maker as both teams scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, leaving Del Rio just short.
Betancourt had a big game, scoring 26 points to lead Del Rio. Joselyn Gonzalez had 15 points, Sydney Ballard had four points, Alexia Muñiz had three points, and Makayla Lewis, Allie Rodriguez and Sharleen Perez each had two points.

The lead was trimmed to four by halftime, 21-17, and then to two, 29-27, by the end of the third quarter. But the Queens held strong and earned the five-point win.

In bracket play they ran into a tough Devine squad. Del Rio fell behind 11-6 in the first quarter and was never able to make up the deficit, eventually falling 33-25.
