A 63-year-old Del Rio woman died after she was struck by a vehicle Friday near the intersection of two major south Del Rio streets, police said Monday.
Del Rio Police Department Senior Officer Dulce Gonzalez said officers were dispatched to the intersection of Dr. Fermin Calderon Boulevard and East De La Rosa Street at 6:58 p.m. Friday after police received a call about a motor vehicle accident.
“After the officers arrived, they learned that a female pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. The female was unresponsive at the scene, and officers administered CPR as they waited for EMS to arrive. The woman was transported to Val Verde Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead a short time later,” Gonzalez said.
The woman who died was identified as Del Rio resident Consuelo Barajas. Her next-of-kin has been notified.
Gonzalez said officers identified two vehicles as involved in the incident, a 2012 Toyota and a 2019 Mitsubishi.
A man, possibly an occupant in one of the vehicles, was also transported to the hospital for medical evaluation, Gonzalez said.
She said officers’ reports on the fatal accident are not complete, adding the incident remains under investigation.
