The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino, which is located approximately 65 miles southeast of Del Rio, has been a popular destination for local residents, and folks from around the state, since its opening in 1996.
While it began with just a few gaming machines, the casino has grown considerably since then. In 2004, a new 100,000-square foot facility was constructed to include an arena and a larger casino. The casino has since also added a hotel and now offers slots, poker and bingo.
Cell phone video taken from inside the casino and posted to social media shows people running or walking as quickly as they can to the nearest exits following reports of the shooting.
In the wake of the shooting, the casino’s media representatives issued a statement via its official website and on social media to explain what happened and to update potential visitors.
The update reads as follows: “Early Sunday morning, December 5, 2021, a security incident occurred outside the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino & Hotel located in Eagle Pass, Texas. This incident resulted in a temporary interruption of business while being investigated.
“Approximately one hour after the security incident occurred, the facility was reopened and normal business resumed.
