Even if there is a pandemic, sometimes you have to hit the road, even if your name isn’t Jack.
Some simple steps will help your trip go smoother, if you’re making a hot shot run to the West Coast or taking your kid to college in Montana.
1 — Google is your friend! When we took Baby Girl to college in a land far, far away, we used Google to find restaurants.
In Roswell, New Mexico, we found what appeared to be a delicious burger joint that we were psyched about. We went in, had a seat and nearly got thrown out on our ear. We didn’t realize New Mexico was a “don’t-eat-inside” state. We stepped outside, Googled Roswell Covid restrictions, and regrouped. Instead of enjoying our lunch in the restaurant, we enjoyed our very tasty burger properly socially distancing from each other on the courthouse lawn a block away.
So, the rest of our trip, we’d see what the restrictions were wherever we were planning to stop or eat. Every state and often every county is different.
2 — Always, always, always have a mask. If you really want to make a political statement, well, go ahead but you might end up hungry.
3 — Always have a back-up mask. If you’re like me, I need to always have a back up because I lose stuff and I get hungry. Masks are a way of life. There are many places you will not get into without one. So, if you want to change this philosophy, contact your elected leaders. However, if you’re going to travel, you may want to ensure you have that piece of fabric.
4 — Be nice! People are basically good. They want to be nice, don’t push their buttons, they’ll try and be careful of yours. There was a consistent theme wherever we were — our fellow humans were trying to be nice. People were working not to get into your space. To properly social distance out of a mutual respect. If somehow you’d meet someone who had taken their mask off and they’d get within 6 feet, they’d apologize.
