It was a wire-to-wire win for the Rams basketball team Tuesday.
Del Rio was too much for the visiting Carrizo Springs Wildcats as the Rams picked up their ninth win of the season, 78-39.
The Rams took a 17-9 lead in the first quarter behind six points from Jorge Rubio and J.J. Cervantes. By halftime, the lead surged to 40-23 as the Rams hit four 3-pointers in the second quarter.
Del Rio didn’t let up in the third quarter, scoring 21 more points as seven different Rams registered points in the period.
Meanwhile, Del Rio’s defense was doing its job, holding Carrizo to just six points in the third.
The Rams closed out the game with 17 points in the fourth.
Nick Rivera finished with 17 points to lead Del Rio. Alessandro Elizondo had 15 points and Cervantes finished with 14. Rubio finished with eight points, Joel Dominguez had seven points, Jairo Venegas and Alan Dobbins each had four points, and Manuel Rodriguez and Corbin Farrar each scored two points for Del Rio.
The varsity Rams will be on a break until Tuesday, Dec. 21, when they travel to Laredo to open district play against the United Longhorns at 7 p.m.
Del Rio’s next home game will be Tuesday, Dec. 28, when the Rams host New Braunfels Canyon at 1 p.m. at the Carl P. Guys Memorial Gymnasium.
Del Rio’s sub-varsity teams will be in action this weekend. The junior varsity blue team will travel to Laredo to compete in the Laredo JV Tournament at Laredo United South. The junior varsity white team is scheduled to travel to Brackettville to compete in the Tiger Classic.
On Friday, Del Rio’s blue and white freshmen teams will host Eagle Pass C.C. Winn at 5 and 6:30 p.m.
