COVID concerns are once again causing issues for boys basketball in District 30-6A.
Tuesday’s game between the Del Rio Rams and Laredo United Longhorns was postponed due to the threat of the infectious disease that has gained new life thanks to its Delta and now Omicron variants.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Laredo United ISD Athletic Director Bobby Cruz said, “Announcement. United vs. Del Rio boys basketball games will not take place today due to COVID concerns. As a precautionary measure, we will reschedule this game. A new date and time will be announced soon.”
Del Rio Rams head coach Joe Nieto said the current hope is that the details regarding the rescheduled game are ironed out Monday.
“Unfortunately at the moment we are pending all the details in regards to rescheduling. We will have a meeting Monday to discuss the details of the game and all other pertinent information,” Nieto said Wednesday.
COVID brought a premature end to the 2020-21 season in February when the Rams and Queens seasons were canceled just three games into the district schedule. The season was suspended Jan. 6 and was originally supposed to suspended just two weeks. However, the suspension was extended two more weeks beginning Jan. 15 before finally being canceled for Del Rio’s teams the first week of February due to the inability to make up games.
