A 17-yar-old San Angelo teenager was arrested Jan. 2 after he spit on a police officer following a foot chase.
Edgar Gaspar was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Jan. 2 and charged with the offense of harassment of a public servant, a third-degree felony.
Del Rio Police Department Dulce Gonzalez said DRPD Officer Jorge Aguirre was dispatched to an area near the Stripes convenience store on Spur 239, after police received a call about a juvenile complaint.
“The caller reported to be having trouble with two of her sons that were traveling with her in a white pickup truck. Upon arrival to the scene, the officer located the white pickup truck parked on the side of the road near the intersection of Spur 239 and Farley Lane,” Gonzalez said.
Aguirre reported he made contact with the woman who had called police.
“She stated her sons had left the area running towards an open field,” Gonzalez said.
Aguirre reported he spotted the two young men, and a second police unit, driven by DRPD Officer Christopher Lauritzen, also arrived to assist.
“The officers attempted to make contact with the male subjects, who were running, and Officer Aguirre detained one of them and brought him back to the mother, while Officer Lauritzen detained the second male, who was placed in handcuffs,” Gonzalez said.
The second male allegedly attempted to pull away when Lauritzen tried to detain him.
“The second male, later identified as Gaspar, spit saliva in Lauritzen’s direction, striking Lauritzen in the upper torso,” Gonzalez said.
Gaspar was arrested on the harassment charge and transported to the police station for booking and processing.
