Another week, another set of game postponements for the Del Rio High basketball teams.
Tuesday afternoon the San Felipe Del Rio CISD announced via its Facebook page that Tuesday evening’s home game between the Del Rio Rams and Laredo United South Panthers would be postponed until a later date. That includes freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams.
Rams head coach Joe Nieto confirmed the postponement, adding, “It was due to an abundance due to COVID.”
But the Rams weren’t the only Del Rio team to see its game postponed tonight.
Queens head coach Marisa Soto said the Queens, who were scheduled to play tonight at Laredo United South, also had their game postponed. She added that Friday’s home game versus Eagle Pass was also postponed.
“We’re just being extra cautious with cases,” Soto said.
This marks the second consecutive week that Del Rio High School basketball games have been postponed due to COVID protocols. Both the Rams and Queens saw their Jan. 7 games against Laredo Alexander postponed for the same reason. Those games are supposed to be played next week should protocols allow.
However, not all of Del Rio’s sports teams have been sidelined due to COVID concerns. Del Rio Queens head soccer coach Wilber Rivas said his team will still host Laredo Martin tonight at 6 at Walter Levermann Ram Stadium.
