A week after local officials and citizens predicted a wreck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 and Wagon Wheel Road, their predictions came true.
Friday night, a Tacoma truck plowed into the back end of a GMC Terrain, waiting for the new light to turn green.
Another vehicle was sucked into the accident, making it a three-car crash. However, the Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper investigating the accident, said ,”It’s a 3-vehicle accident, but no one was taken away in an ambulance, so it’s a pretty good night.”
A week ago, the sheriff was adamant the new light was a recipe for disaster.
“This was expected,” said Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez. “People are not used to a traffic control device at this location.”
Val Verde County Judge Lewis Owens dropped a video less than a week ago on Facebook predicting a crash at this site. He said the new light wasn’t well planned by Texas Department of Transportation officials.
“We predicted this” he said. “Luckily, tonight, we didn’t have anyone carried away in an ambulance or anything like that, but it’s still heart-wrenching for families..”
