Del Rio High School’s first powerlifting meet could be considered a success based on not just the performance of the hometown lifters, but by the number of teams and participants that took place.

Five teams including Crystal City, Uvalde, Rocksprings, Leakey and host Del Rio competed in the inaugural Del Rio Powerlifting Invitational held at Del Rio Middle School Feb. 5.

Lifters gave it their best in three disciplines – the bench press, the deadlift and the squat. Their total weight cleared helped lead to points for their teams.
