The weather improved, but the Queens golf team couldn’t catch the two teams ahead of them on the course.

Del Rio finished third on its home course Saturday as the Brown Automotive Del Rio High School Girls Invitational Golf Tournament came to a close.

Uvalde took top team honors with a two-day 780. Sofia White saw her score climb a bit from day one’s 4-over 76, but the Lobos would not be denied as they took home the trophy.

White finished with a 167 after shooting a 91 on Saturday. Morgan Dreyer shot a 199 (104, 95), Payton Dodson shot a 199 (99, 100) and Emilee Garcia shot a 215 (102, 113).

Second place went to Eagle Pass High, which shot an 802. Like the other teams in the tournament, Eagle Pass struggled with the high winds that knocked shots off line and turned big drives into short drives throughout the day at the San Felipe Springs Golf Course.

Valeria De La Cabada led the Lady Eagles with a two-day 187 (94, 93). Her twin sister, Regina De La Cabada, was second on the team with a 192 (95, 97). Maria Gutierrez shot a 208 (106, 102), Deidra Kuri shot a 215 (102, 113), and Ana Flores shot a 228 (111, 117).

Only the top four lowest scores were used to determine the team’s total score each day and its overall team score for the tournament.

Del Rio was third with an 834. The Queens shot a 419 on Saturday, four shots higher than they shot on Friday.

Senior Leanna Galindo led the team with a 193 (95, 98). Fellow senior Lorena Torres shot a 208 (102, 106). Junior Adali Hernandez was third with a 216 (108, 108) and junior Joelda Alcaraz rounded out the team with a 217 (110, 107).

South San was fourth with an 848. They improved their team score by 14 strokes from Friday to Saturday. Alyssa Contreras, the team’s lone senior, led the way with a two-day 186 including Saturday’s lowest round score of 87.

Laredo United South finished fifth with an 860. Leslie Rodriguez was the top golfer on the team as she shot a 182 (89, 93).

Laredo Alexander took sixth with an 862. They also improved on day two, shaving 18 strokes off their first round score. Zaida Gonzalez was the top golfer for the Lady Bulldogs with her 206 (106, 100).

Laredo United came in seventh with a 945. Mariana Luna led the team with a 215 (106, 109).

Eagle Pass C.C. Winn took eighth with a 963. Alondra Meza had the lowest score for the Lady Mavericks with a 224 (113, 111).

The top five medalists for the tournament were Uvalde’s White (167), United South’s Rodriguez (182), South San’s Contreras (186), and Eagle Pass’ De La Cabada sisters – Valeria (187) and Regina (192).
