A Ft. Worth, Texas, man has been charged with two felony assaults after he allegedly injured two women after throwing a glass bottle at one of them inside a local bar, police said.

Benjamin Dale Nevins, 48, of Ft. Worth, was arrested early on Feb. 10 and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, according to a report released by the Del Rio Police Department.

In an affidavit filed in the case, DRPD Senior Officer Vicente Hernandez reported he was dispatched to the Angels & Bulls bar, 506 E. Seventh St., at 12:03 a.m. after police received a call about an assault in progress.

Hernandez wrote he was advised by police dispatchers that a woman inside the bar had been struck with a glass bottle.

Hernandez said when he arrived at the bar, he spoke with the two women, identified as Marina Venegas Galarza and Paloma Azeneth Zavala.

“Galarza was holding a napkin to the back of her head because she was bleeding from a laceration she sustained from a (thrown) bottle. Galarza stated she was hit with a glass bottle and punched in the face,” Hernandez said.

He said Galarza identified the man that struck her with the bottle as Nevins.

Galarza told the officer Nevins had confronted her about some money he had loaned her niece.

“Galarza stated she did not know about the money, and Nevins became upset. Nevins struck Galarza in the face and then hit her with a bottle. In the process, the bottle deflected off of Galarza and struck (the second woman),” Hernandez wrote.

Zavala, the second woman, suffered a cut above her right eye, the officer said.

He noted Galarza and several other bar patrons told him where Nevins might be found.

Hernandez reported he drove to the Quality Inn, 3616 Veterans Blvd., and located Nevins’ truck.

He wrote Nevins “did not appear surprised to see police at his door.”

Hernandez arrested Nevins on the two felony assault charges and transported him to the police station for booking and processing.

Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Antonio “Tony” Faz III set bond at $25,000 on each offense.
