Incumbents triumphed in three local contested races in Tuesday’s Democratic Party Primary Election here.
County Commissioner Pct. 2 Juan Carlos Vazquez, County Commissioner Pct. 4 Gustavo “Gus” Flores and Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Jesse James Treviño all won their respective races.
Vazquez beat challenger Rose Marie Coronado Castro, drawing a total of 213 votes, including 137 early votes, 60 Election Day votes and 16 absentee votes. Castro had a total of 133 votes, with 71 early votes, 56 Election Day votes and 6 absentee votes.
Flores defeated two opponents: Alfredo “Fred” Carranza Jr. and Juan Dehoyos. Flores won the three-way race outright with a total of 447 votes. Carranza, the closest challenger, finished with a total of 291 votes, and Dehoyos had a total of 105 votes.
Flores drew 312 early votes, 128 votes on Election Day and seven absentee votes. Carranza had 164 early votes, 113 votes on Election Day and 14 absentee votes, and Dehoyos had 57 early votes, 48 votes on Election Day and no absentee votes.
Flores has no Republican Party challenger for the County Commissioner Pct. 4 seat in the November General Election.
Treviño bested challenger Ramon Ray Hernandez. Treviño won the primary race with a total of 369 votes, including 218 early votes, 102 votes on Election Day and 49 absentee votes. Hernandez had a total of 160 votes, including 100 early votes, 54 votes on Election Day and six absentee votes.
Treviño has no Republican Party challenger for the Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 seat in the November General Election.
All of the results announced late Tuesday are unofficial until they are canvassed later this month.
