The Del Rio High School Career Technical Education Welding class recently dominated the Skills USA Skills and Leadership District 11 Conference held in Floresville and San Antonio.
“It was outstanding,” said Tod Townsend, welding teacher. “I’m proud that our students won every single contest for welding.”
Del Rio welding students have won the district competition the last 12 years. However, Townsend said this wasn’t what he was most proud of.
“I’m really proud of what my students have gone on and done in their lives,” Townsend said. “Students have gone out and gotten great jobs, are running successful companies and are doing so much with their welding skills we taught them here.”

Juan Iglesias, Luke Gilliam, Adriel Perez, Carlos Sanchez, Anay Martinez, Jose De La Paz, Alexia Vasquez, Adrian Duran, Jesus Vara, Tyler Hill, Jovan Arizpe, Rodolfo Hernandez, Aidan Medellin, Luis Vazquez, Marcos Garcia, Angel Coronado, Abraham Guillen, Felipe Lopez, Juan Iglesias, Abraham Vasquez, Jesus Zamarripa, Daniel Crispin, Marc Villanueva, Yeshua Diaz and Georgina Rojas 1st Place Blue Ribbon and are state qualifiers.
The students will compete for state honors April 1 and 2 in Corpus Christi.
