Sometimes polar opposites do meet in the same place.
A local country morning disc jockey has released a Latin rap single.
Del Rio native SVNTVCRVZ dropped a new Latin single, 14 DE DICIEMBRE, over the weekend on SoundCloud. SVNTVCRVZ bears a striking resemblance to Sam Ledezma, Jay Gonzales’s sidekick on KDLK”s Jay in the Morning show.
SVNTVCRVZ’s single is far from KDLK’s format that features a George Strait single at the top of every hour. The single features vocals in Spanish and music production provided by the artist. The artist croons over a regueton inspired instrumental as he tells a story of budding love between him and his girlfriend, that is known as Butterfly to his morning listeners.
It’s the 10th single he’s produced and released.
A common theme to country music is love and pain, where Ledezma/SVNTVCRVZ’s said his music started.
“I first started to work on music as an outlet — a way to put my pain somewhere else other than my mind,” Ledezma/SVNTVCRVZ said.
While being selected a part of Del Rio’s longest running morning show is an accomplishment for him, when he’s working on beats, it brings another sense of accomplishment for him.
“I remember listening to Don Omar or Daddy Yankee and thinking maybe one day I could do something similar,” he said. “I just try to make music I like or that I’d listen to.”
