Three city employees were honored for their work in a special ceremony during the city council’s most recent meeting.
City Human Resources Director Mario Garcia made the presentation during the council’s June 14 meeting.
“It gives me great pleasure to introduce these individuals who are recognized across all city division supervisors, in other words, not just one supervisor puts in their recommendation,” Garcia told the council.
Garcia said the city’s employee recognition program had been put on hold for a time for several different reasons.
“I appreciate that we’re now able to bring this back to you again, and we want to keep it as up-to-date as possible,” Garcia added.
He said city employees Michael Garcia and Roxy Soto lead the “Dream Team Del Rio” program that helps in the selection of employees to be honored.
Mario Garcia then introduced the first employee to be honored – Julio Zambrano as the December 2021 Employee of the Month.
“Mr. Zambrano is in the transportation department. He is the fleet mechanic, and he is in charge of taking care of all of the equipment that goes through the transportation department,” Garcia said.
Garcia then introduced Lilia Diaz as the January 2022 Employee of the Month, noting Diaz is a member of the city’s human resources department.
“Lilia has been with us more than 20 years, and she is my right hand, my left hand, and sometimes my head as well. I’m extremely grateful that other city divisions’ supervisors have recognized her work as well,” Garcia said, adding Diaz has announced she plans to retire at the beginning of next year.
Garcia finally introduced Mike Flores as the February 2022 Employee of the Month.
“Mr. Flores is our traffic signal technician. He takes care of all our streetlights across the city. He’s been with the city 30-plus years, and if you’re driving down our streets, he’s one of our most critical employees,” Garcia said.
The three employees were then presented with certificates of recognition and given a round of applause by council and audience members.
