An issue with paperwork has forced some rescheduling in two of the Little League softball tournaments at the Val Verde County Sports Complex this week.
According to District 35 Tournament Director Pat Rodriguez, who also serves as the Del Rio Little League president, an issue with the paperwork submitted by the 10-12-year-old team from Kinney County forced that tournament to be postponed at least for Sunday night while the matter could be resolved.
However by postponing the tournament it forced Rodriguez to have to reschedule the games for the District 35 8-10 Softball Tournament and the District 35 10-12 Softball Tournament due to the availability of only one softball field at the complex, which is located off Frontera Road.
The new tournament schedules have been posted on the official Del Rio Little League website – delriolittleleague.com .
The District 35 Junior League Softball Tournament will still begin tonight at 9 p.m., at the complex’s Field 3 with Del Rio facing Eagle Pass.
Also tonight, Kinney County will face Eagle Pass in an elimination game in the District 35 10-12 Softball Tournament at 7 p.m. at the complex’s Field 3. This game was supposed to be played Sunday night but was postponed due to the paperwork issue.
Del Rio will take on Eagle Pass tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the championship game of the District 35 8-10 Baseball Tournament at the complex’s Field 1. This will be the second game between the two teams. Eagle Pass won the first game Friday night, 13-3. If Del Rio loses tonight, the tournament ends. If Del Rio wins, then the “if necessary” finale will be played Wednesday at 9 p.m. at the complex’s Field 1.
8-10 SOFTBALL
Del Rio moved into the championship game of the District 35 8-10 Softball Tournament with a 16-6 win over Kinney County Sunday night.
It was the team’s second win of 10 runs or more in the tournament. They’ll next face the winner of Tuesday’s 7 p.m. elimination game between Eagle Pass and Kinney County.
The championship game will be played Thursday at 7 p.m. at the complex’s Field 3.
10-12 BASEBALL
Del Rio suffered its first loss of the District 35 10-12 Baseball Tournament Sunday night, falling to Eagle Pass, 3-2.
The loss sends Del Rio to the elimination bracket where they will face Kinney County Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at the complex’s Field 1. It will be a rematch between the two teams. Del Rio won the first meeting, 15-2, Friday night.
If Del Rio defeats Kinney County a second time, then they will face Eagle Pass in the championship game Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the complex’s Field 1.
