While Del Rio’s junior varsity cross country teams didn’t get to face a lot of competition this past weekend, the runners did get in some work as they continued the season.
Saturday, Del Rio’s JV boys and girls teams competed at the San Antonio Spartan Cross Country Meet at the Joshua Springs Park and Preserve in Comfort.
Del Rio’s boys team was the only team in each division. Del Rio’s girls were first among the two teams in its division.
For the boys, Jose Martinez was first in 20:54.020. Jose Ortiz was second in 21:03.597. Emiliano Deluna finished third in 21:08.175. Antonio Padilla took fourth in 21:35.200. Erik Flores was fifth in 22:34.452. Samuel Curtis was sixth in 23:14.090. Will Fooshee rounded out the group in 23:40.569.
For the girls, Payton Becker was first in 16:03.061. Teammates Kaylie Morales and Natalie Cordova were second and third in 16:55.968 and 17:07.673 respectively. Melina Ortiz was fifth in 17:58.501. Isela Gonzalez was sixth in 18:15.973. Arianna Martinez rounded out the group in ninth place in 20:28.181.
The junior varsity teams are scheduled to join the varsity runners this weekend in San Antonio to compete in the Southwest meet.
