Del Rio Middle School can add two more first place plaques to its cross country program’s legacy.
The school’s seventh and eighth grade boys teams each took first place in their respective divisions at this weekend’s Steve Goleman Memorial Cross Country Invitational at Bandera City Park in Bandera.
The seventh grade team was bolstered by four top 10 finishers while seven of the team’s runners finished in the top 20 overall.
Jacob Saucedo led Del Rio’s harriers, finishing third overall in 9:38.315. He led a Del Rio contingent that finished 3-4-5 as teammates Leo Cavazos and Ethan Jurado crossed the finish line in 9:57.599 and 10:08.387 respectively.
Jesus Robles was 10th in 10:42.144, and Ray Torres was 11th in 10:53.847.
Rounding out the group were Alexavier Medina, who was 15th in 11:01.404, and Carlos Jaquez, who was 18th in 11:08.020.
Adalberto Mendoza was 28th in 11:29.340, David Neylon was 32nd in 11:55.336, Eduardo Estrada was 36th in 12:07.554, Landon Leyva was 39th in 12:23.404, and Eli Tavera was 41st in 12:31.702.
The eighth grade boys team was nearly as dominant, taking first place over Eagle Pass Junior High.
All but one of the eighth grade team’s top seven runners finished in the top 20 overall.
Del Rio took the top two spots with Alexander Perez grabbing first in 9:41.299, and Julian Dominguez finishing second in 9:47.763.
Julyus Calderon and Abraham Cardenas also finished in the top 10. Calderon was sixth in 10:20.185, and Cardenas was ninth in 10:37.176.
Reynaldo De Los Santos was 16th in 10:57.788, Michael Cariaga was 19th in 11:08.922, and Abraham Garcia was 27th in 11:39.851.
Jose Gallegos was 47th in 12:06.383, and Antonio Scott was 55th in 12:43.924.
GIRLS DIVISION
Del Rio’s seventh grade and eighth grade girls teams each finished second in their respective divisions.
In the seventh grade race, Del Rio finished behind only Boerne Voss Middle School.
Olivia Leon was the top finisher for the young Queens as she was 15th overall in a time of 12:50.886. She was one of three Del Rio runners to finish in the top 20.
Joining her were Karissa Martinez, who was 16th in 12:51.054, and Celeste Garcia, who was 18th in 12:53.946.
Anna Curtis was 22nd in 12:57.768, Isabella Valdez was 28th in 13:25.025, Reagan Becker was 31st in 13:33.151, and Hazel Altman was 32nd in 13:36.506.
Ava Jimenez was 57th in 14:30.461, and Scotlin Grant was 70th in 15:11.600.
Boerne Voss Middle School and Del Rio Middle School also finished 1-2 in the eighth grade girls division.
Del Rio’s Reba Salinas and Camila De Los Santos each finished in the top 10. Salinas was eighth in 12:18.587, and De Los Santos was 10th in 12:22.924.
Camila Fernandez took 11th in 12:27.756, Aniah Gonzales was 21st in 13:14.126, Karyme Valencia was 22nd in 13:15.952, Debrah Beltran was 26th in 13:33.137, and Kaitlyn Guardiola was 39th in 14:39.984.
Anahi Gonzales was 62nd in 15:03.054, Bonnie Lozano was 71st in 15:42.469, Camila Berain was 75th in 15:56.449, and Daniela Garcia was 76th in 15:56.712.
