Del Rioans who want to learn more about Alzheimer’s and dementia are invited to a free seminar on these conditions.
Henry Gomez, of the Del Rio Mental Health Committee, announced the seminar this past week during a presentation to Val Verde County Commissioners Court.
“I’m here on behalf of the Mental Health Committee, just to let you know of Nov. 3 at 6 o’clock, at the Texas Community Bank meeting room across the street from the (county) courthouse, we’re going to have a live presentation – also available on Zoom – on Alzheimer’s,” Gomez told the court.
“Alzheimer’s is one of the mental health problems of dementia, and we have a lady from the Alzheimer’s organization out of San Antonio coming in to do the presentation, and she’ll be talking about the 10 signs on dementia and Alzheimer’s. She’ll be talking about what is dementia and what is Alzheimer’s and how they’re alike and how they’re different from each other,” Gomez added.
Gomez said the presentation is free and open to the public.
“We’re going to make it available in the 20 counties that we’re in contact with, and this is going to be the first of many other monthly series we want to do in 2023, and we want to do as many as possible of them free, but that all depends on the presentations, who is going to do them and where they’re coming from,” Gomez said.
“I want to thank again the commissioners court, the judge and the commissioners, for all the support you’ve given us. As I said, we are going to try and do as many free presentations as we can,” he added.
County Judge Lewis G. Owens Jr. asked if members of the court had any questions for Gomez, and when no one did, County Commissioner Pct. 3 Beau Nettleton thanked Gomez for his work.
Gomez made a similar presentation announcing the seminar to Del Rio City Council members during their meeting Tuesday night and to the Val Verde Regional Medical Center’s district and corporate boards of directors during their meeting Wednesday night.
