A grease buildup is being blamed for a fire at a popular local barbecue restaurant, Del Rio Fire Department officials said.

Four DRFD vehicles and 14 firefighters responded to a fire at the Hot Pit BBQ, 309 Veterans Blvd., at 10:46 a.m. (Monday), DRFD Chief David Harrison told the 830 Times.

“The fire was in an industrial oven in the restaurant, and ignition was reported as having been caused by a buildup of grease,” Harrison said in a text message.

The fire chief said firefighters extinguished the fire and ventilated the building.

“The city health department arrived on scene to work with the occupant in reopening,” Harrison added.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
