A man accused of trying to run another driver off the road has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, court documents show.

Jesus Manuel Castro Jr., 29, 93 Duck St., was arrested about 1 p.m. on Jan. 1 and charged with the offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, according to an affidavit filed in the case by Val Verde Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ramiro Barrera.

In the affidavit, Barrera wrote he was dispatched to the intersection of Industrial Boulevard and Cienegas Road at 12:43 p.m. on Jan. 1 “in regard to a caller stating she was driving and being followed by (a man) who was in another vehicle attempting to drive her off the roadway.”

“While en route, VVSO communications advised the victim, (a 31-year-old woman), stated (the man), identified as Castro, hit the rear end of her vehicle with the front end of his vehicle at a stop sign and was attempting to run her off the roadway while she was attempting to drive to the Del Rio Police Department at 101 Lowe Drive,” Barrera wrote.

Barrera wrote he encountered the woman and Castro in the parking lot outside the police station a short time later. Barrera said he saw Castro yelling at the woman, who had stayed in her car.

“(I) observed (the woman) inside her vehicle with four children crying in fear and looked to be very scared. Contact was made with (the woman) . . . (She) stated the incident started due to a verbal argument between herself and Castro,” Barrera wrote.

The deputy noted the woman told him when she tried to walk away from Castro and the argument, Castro “grabbed her left arm causing her pain and attempted to turn off her vehicle.”

“(She) stated she was able to drive away, and Castro followed in his vehicle. (She) stated she was in fear of her life and the children’s lives due to Castro using his vehicle as a weapon in attempt to cause serious bodily injury by hitting her vehicle while stopped at a stop sign. (She) stated Castro followed her and used his vehicle to attempt to run her off the roadway on Industrial Boulevard,” Barrera wrote.

Barrera arrested Castro and took him to the sheriff’s office for booking and processing.

Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Jesse James Treviño set a bail amount of $15,000 in the case.
