Del Rio High School’s fall athletes took center stage as their efforts were recognized by their coaches and teammates.

The annual Del Rio High School Fall Sports Awards Ceremony took place Feb. 15 at the San Felipe Del Rio CISD Student Performance Center for the first time in the awards’ history. The formal setting brought a different view to the presentations, but the enthusiasm and support the student-athletes received from their teammates, friends and family followed from the awards’ old site at the Carl P. Guys Memorial Gymnasium.

Coaches from the school’s football, cross-country and volleyball programs doled out awards throughout the evening. New Rams head football coach Fiacro Ramirez Jr. addressed the crowd, making his first public appearance in the Queen City since being named to the position earlier this year.

Ramirez spoke briefly before turning the awards over to his assistant coaches. He thanked the public for its support and said he was proud to be back home. He added that he had worked as an assistant coach for years for the opportunity to come back to Del Rio to be a head coach.
