The Del Rio softball team has lost two district games by one run. The Queens opened District 30-6A action with a 8-7 loss to Laredo United South before falling to Laredo LBJ 6-5.

On Tuesday the Queens were able to be on the other side of the ball as Del Rio rallied in the seventh inning to mount a comeback and upset Laredo United 7-6.

Heading into their final at bat, the Queens were down 6-3 but were able to score four runs in the seventh inning and pick up their first district win of the season.

Miamor Salazar singled on a 3-2 count scoring two runs to push Del Rio past Laredo United in a key District 30-6A game and give the Queen’s their first district win.

After a scoreless opening inning, Laredo United brought two runs across home plate in the second inning by Galilea Pena and Dessy Perez as the Lady Longhorns took an early 2-0 lead.

At the beginning Del Rio struggled at the plate, only managing two hits in five innings but ended the night with 10 hits all coming late in the game. Laredo United pitcher Brianna Alvarado kept the Queens off balanced and did not give them much to work with at the plate.

On the other side Laredo United ripped six hits and scored six runs with the biggest inning for the Lady Longhorns coming in the fourth inning. Laredo United added to their 2-0 lead with Perez ripping a single to open the inning.

Two consecutive errors by the Del Rio defense allowed two runs to come across home plate. A single by Erica Peimbert and back to back hits had the Lady Longhorns take a 6-1 lead.

The Queens started to settle in at the plate with Hope Martinez who opened the sixth inning with a double. Martinez who went 3-for-4 on the night, went on to score followed by Rebekah Alcaraz as the Queens started to chip away at Laredo United’s lead and make it a 6-3 ball game heading into the final inning.

The hot bats that Laredo United started off with at the inception of the game started to fade for the Lady Longhorns as Alcaraz neutralized them at the plate. Alcaraz lasted seven innings in the circle, allowing ten hits, six runs and striking out three batters.

The biggest inning for the Queens came in the seventh inning as Del Rio battled back to come out victorious.

Leadoff batter Ithalia Ozuna got things going with a double to ignite the Del Rio comeback. It was followed by a single by Syann Casillas. Ozuna and Casilla would go on to score to make a 6-5 ball game.

Martinez and Alcaraz had back-to-back hits to put runners on the bags. Salazar strolled to the plate and ripped a single to score Martinez and Alcaraz and seal the victory for Queens.
