City of Del Rio Police Department press release
On April 23rd, 2023, at approximately 2:26 A.M. Del Rio Police Department officers responded to the area of Jap Lowe Drive for a disturbance involving shots fired. A vehicle description was provided by the caller(s).
Upon arrival, officers attempted to contact the driver, but he fled at a high rate of speed, disregarding police.
The vehicle came to a stop at the 300 block of Patuel Lane, and the male subject was detained with no further incident. A pat down revealed no firearms on his person. A search of his vehicle revealed a 9mm Glock pistol inside the center console.
The victim who was pregnant reported the disturbance ensued after the male wished to drive the vehicle while intoxicated. The victim reported the male pulled on the steering wheel several times while she drove, causing her to stop the vehicle in attempt to deescalate the situation.
The victim tried to call a family member to assist, but the male removed the phone from her and threw it out of the vehicle. The victim reported she physically assaulted by the male with an opened hand and struck on the top of her head with a pistol causing injuries.
The victim reported the male pointed a firearm at her and discharged the firearm in the air prior to police arrival. Victim was transported to Val Verde Regional Medical Center for treatment. The male was arrested and transported to the police station for processing. A subsequent search of the brush area revealed the victim’s cellphone and an additional firearm.
The male identified as Oscar Fuentez 32 years of age, was arrested, and charged with Aggravated Assault Date / Family / Household member/ with a Deadly Weapon, Assault of a pregnant person, Deadly Conduct Discharging a Firearm and Evading Arrest or Detention with a vehicle. An Emergency Protective Order Application was completed on behalf of the victim
