NEWS — Mayor proclaims ‘Professional Municipal Clerks Week’

Mayor Al Arreola has proclaimed the week of April 30 through May 6 as “Professional Municipal Clerks Week.”

Arreola announced the proclamation during the April 25 meeting of the Del Rio City Council in honor of City Secretary Mari Acosta and her staff, including Ana Maria Giraldo, Norma De Luna and Kaitlynn Sotelo.

Arreola read the following proclamation during the council meeting:

“Whereas, the office of the professional municipal clerk, a time honored and vital part of local government, exists throughout the world; and whereas, the office of professional municipal clerk is the oldest among public servants; and

“Whereas, the office of the professional municipal clerk provides the professional link between the citizens, the local governing bodies, and agencies of government at other levels; and whereas, professional municipal clerks have pledged to be ever mindful of their neutrality and impartiality, rendering equal service to all; and

“Whereas, the professional municipal clerk serves as the information center on functions of local government and community; and whereas, professional municipal clerks continually strive to improve the administration of the affairs of the office of professional municipal clerk through participation in education programs, seminars, workshops and annual meetings of their state, provincial, county and international professional organizations; and

“Whereas, the professional municipal clerk in the role of city secretary serves as an administrative director; and whereas, it is most appropriate that we recognize the accomplishments of the office of the professional municipal clerk; and whereas, the city secretary would like to recognize Ana Giraldo, Norma De Luna and Kaitlynn Sotelo, who are awesome at what they do and bring great value to the team, now, therefore, I, Alvaro Arreola, mayor of the city of Del Rio, Texas, do hereby proclaim April 30-May 6, 2023, as ‘Professional Municipal Clerks Week’,” Arreola read.

Arreola then presented a framed copy of the proclamation to Acosta and her staff and led the council members, city staff and audience in a round of applause.
