NEWS — Traffic accident results in 2 arrests

On  April 29, 2023 at 4:38 p.m., Del Rio Police Department officers responded to Cantu Rd. and Wildcat Dr. for a traffic accident. Upon arrival, officers saw a white vehicle leaving the scene of the accident. Witnesses told police, one of the drivers was leaving the scene of the accident in the white vehicle.

An officer followed the white vehicle and activated the emergency equipment of the patrol unit, in an attempt to detain the male involved in the crash and the female that was transporting him away from the scene.

The white vehicle disregarded police and continued to travel eastbound on Cantu Rd.  The vehicle came to a stop at 401 Memorial Drive, where the female informed police, she was not the driver of the crashed vehicle and was only providing the male a ride.

The male, identified as Javier Martinez, told police he was involved in the accident but left the scene due to fear of getting in trouble with police. Martinez walked to the female’s apartment and asked to be taken back to the accident scene to retrieve his personal items from the damaged vehicle. The female agreed and transported Martinez to the accident scene but departed once they saw police was present.

Javier Martinez, 22 years of age was arrested and charged with the offense of Accident Involving Injury.

Irma Zamora, 48 years of age was arrested and charged with the offense of Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle and Hinder Apprehension / Prosecution.
