The Bayou on the Border and Adventure on the Creek, a major part of the SFDRCISD Foundation fundraising effort, has been postponed to May 7.
“With the rise in COVID 19 cases, it really seemed like the responsible thing to do,” said Sylvia Owens, the Foundation president. “We’d been contacted by people who wanted to pick up plates, but this is an event and if people are coming by, picking up the plate and eating it at home, the event loses a lot of its lustre.”
As of Monday, there were 582 active COVID cases in Val Verde County.
However, parts of the event will go on. The event’s raffle for numerous prizes, including a $2,000 cash prize, will still be held online.
In 2021, the organization gave away $11,500 in scholarships to local students and another $30,000 in grants to teachers.
“We want people to realize, this event isn’t canceled, just pushed back to a time when we can all safely get together,” Owens said. Â
