After months of planning and remodeling, the first Burlington retail store in Del Rio is now open to the public. The store has been a household name across the country selling a variety of items from clothes to household appliances and toys for children.

Burlington held its grand opening on Friday with a ribbon cut at 9 a.m and giveaways to customers.

Joannie Gaytan, general manager, said she and everyone involved were excited to be at the opening. Claudia Sanchez, operations manager, said they had a great turnout with more than a 100 people showing up to the opening. She said their team hopes they have a great future with the people of Del Rio.

“The community showed up for Burlington this morning,” Sanchez said. “The more stores we have in Del Rio the better, and I think the store is going to do well with the city.”

Blake Oliva, future district manager, said plans to set up a Burlington retail store in Del Rio have been in the works for over a year. He said Burlington has some of the best values and receives unique products constantly. Burlington also has their own store credit cards, and they carry with them loyalty programs that extend returns to 45 days.

“We get merchandise every single day and you’re gonna get a clean, safe and friendly store every time you shop,” Oliva said.

Locals have known for a while about a Burlington coming to Del Rio. Karla Guerra and Jessie Dehoyos, Del Rio locals, heard about the retail store being built since last year. Dehoyos said she’d never been to a Burlington and was excited to see what brands they carry. Guerra said the store is going to be popular because it has great products for all ages.

“I just love the variety that they have; the entire family can shop there,” Guerra said. “You can find anything and everything there and at a good price,”

Besides including a unique lineup of products, Burlington also brought job opportunities to the community. Gaytan said the company opened up 110 jobs for the city of Del Rio. She said the company is a great place to work and they care a lot for their employees.

“Burlington takes care of their employees, and we give them opportunities to grow with the company; that is one of our themes we develop,” Gaytan said.

On Friday and Saturday, the store gave free gift cards to the first 100 people at the door, and on Sunday, customers were scheduled to receive a free tote bag at the door.

Burlington, located in Plaza del Sol Mall, is open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Even though the store opened early in the morning, more than a 100 people showed up forming a huge line at the mall. Valeria Urbano, Del Rio local, was one of the first in line to enter the store. Urbano said she has only been to the Burlington in Eagle Pass and was excited to see what products they carried over. (Photo by Louis Zylka)
