A Lake Amistad motel which has sat vacant for almost 5 years is reopening.
Thanks to local investor Mario Perez, the former Lakeview Inn Diablo East is now the Champions Inn, bringing more rooms to the lake area.
Perez, who has never run a motel, saw an opportunity to purchase the property to provide lodging for tourists and fishing families visiting Lake Amistad.
Though already open for business, Champions Inn is still going through several renovations projects. At the Champions Inn, guest can enjoy one of the spacious 34 rooms with WI-FI, a new lobby and the pool will be open this summer.
Perez said he’s working on a website for online reservation and is planning to build an outdoor patio to allow guest to enjoy their favorite beverage while overlooking Lake Amistad.
Since its opening, the motel has provided jobs for 10 people with more to come.
