Candidate Profile — Edward Guerrero

Question 1: What in your experience, personal and professional, qualifies you to serve the community in this position?

“I began my career in public service 10 years ago with the Del Rio Police Department, where I served under the late Chief Waylon Bullard, a respected lawman and community leader. His example taught me the meaning of true service, integrity, and accountability, values I have carried with me both professionally and personally.

“I later continued that commitment through my work with the Texas Department of Public Safety, where I strengthened those same values through direct service to the public. During that time, I also started a local pageant organization that provides young girls and young women with mentorship, confidence-building, leadership skills, and opportunities to serve in community initiatives.

“Through both my career and my work in the community, I have connected with parents and heard their concerns about the school district. We must invest in people and create opportunities. I will be a new voice to advocate strongly for the needs of our educators, support staff, and students. Because when we invest into the educators who make a difference every day, we strengthen the future of our students and our community.”

Question 2: What do you believe is the most important work of the SFDR-CISD Board of Trustees over the next few years, and how will you contribute to making that happen?

“If elected Board Trustee Place 3, one of my top priorities will be to face this district’s challenges head-on and make decisions that truly support the individuals who serve our students. I know our teachers and staff are the heartbeat of this district, and if we want stronger outcomes for students, we must be willing to better support the people who make that success possible every day.

“That means recognizing the needs of our teachers, janitors, paraprofessionals, auxiliary staff, and all employees who help keep this district moving forward. I am ready to be an advocate for the future of this district by being a strong voice for those who feel overlooked and unheard, especially in Special Education and ESL.

“When we invest in our educators and staff, they pour that investment back into our students through education, support, and passion. Because of the dedication of our teachers, staff, and students, SFDR-CISD has what it takes to become the district others along the border look to as an example.”
