Question 2: What do you believe is the most important work of the school district trustee over the next few years and how will you contribute to make it happen?
“My focus as a trustee has more than one priority. First, it is important to secure the safety of all students within the school environment. If students feel safe, their focus will be on their academics. Along with this priority is ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education.
“As a trustee, you attend meetings, adopt policies, learn curriculum, finances, and follow state and federal regulations and attend CEC (continuing education) classes. We ensure teachers have the training and resources they need. I emphasize parent communication. A trustee must be trusted to listen in order to make decisions to reflect the student and parent need.
“I will continue to contribute by prioritizing student success through data-driven decisions that improve the learning outcomes of all students. Supporting teachers is very important. In order for teachers to succeed in their teaching profession, resources needed and training must be met. Finally, open communication is essential. By listening to parents, students and teachers, we can make better decisions that will reflect their needs.
“I feel that students are the voice of tomorrow, and a trustee must keep up with a changing society and prepare students for their future.”
