Question #1 What are your qualifications to serve in the office you are seeking?
20 years as County Commissioner Pct. 3; four years as Road Crew Foreman for Pct.3; six years in public works for the City of Del Rio as follows: Director of Streets and Drainage, Director of Airport, Director of Landfill, Director of Parks and Recreation, Director of Traffic Control and Director of Auto Shop; 10 years with Texas Department of Transportation as maintenance crew leader; owner of Specialty Landscaping Solutions; owner of Nettleton Ranching. All this experience gives me an understanding of government budgeting and project management, along with understanding community needs. Every day I work with budgets in the private world. I know what it takes to get a job completed on time and on budget.
Question #2 What is your vision for this office for the next four years?
My goal is to work with the city, county, school district and our citizens to put in place a Master Plan as to how we want to develop our community for growth. To accomplish this, I will hold as many community meetings as necessary along with meeting regularly with our city and district officials. Once we have created a master plan we will work on creating a long-range transportation plan, so that we can improve the flow of traffic and have the infrastructure in place to attract the industries and businesses that we want in our communities. By creating this plan, it would allow us the ability to move traffic flow efficiently while protecting the sanctity of our residential, recreational and tourism areas. We could then enhance our commercial and industrial thoroughfare to handle long-term growth. With this plan we can facilitate a way to get state and federal funding for local projects. It’s important to have a plan that we all support so that we speak as a united community. Once these projects are created, we can then focus our budgets to achieve these objectives. I also plan on working with surrounding communities to look for projects that will enhance our region as a whole.
