The city will be having its first city-wide clean-up on Saturday, March 22, at the Joe Ramos Center, 1105 W. De La Rosa St.
The city will be taking garbage from citizens from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Platform Waste Solutions, the waste management company in charge of the city’s daily garbage pickups, will have its employees at the event to help citizens unload their items.
John Martinez, scale house attendant for the city, spoke with The 830 Times to say what items residents can and cannot bring to the clean-up. He said people can bring organic waste, such as brushes and limbs from trees, and household items, such as stoves, dryers, bicycles and leftover building materials.
Martinez said the clean-up event will not accept tires, household paint and electric items including VCRs, car batteries, refrigerators, computers or circuit boards.
Citizens will need to bring a valid ID and a current water or trash bill showing proof of residency.
As mentioned in the flyer for the event, business or private contractors are not permitted to dispose of garbage at the event. Martinez said the clean-up event is put together for citizens who don’t want to drive the longer distance to dispose of garbage at the city’s landfill.
For more information about the event, citizens can contact Platform Waste Solutions at 830-775-2715.
