Some stations just play music, attract lots of listeners and make money off of that.
However, KDLK 94.1 is building its reputation through an amazing morning show, solid country music and consistently meeting the community’s needs through fun events.
Friday night, they will be producing a comedy show at Ya’ll Come Back Saloon featuring three rising Texas comedians who are transplants to the state.
Comedians Jessie Burlingame, Paul Cyphers, Simon Nash and local Selina Gomez will entertain a projected sold-out crowd Friday from 8 to 11 p.m.at the Saloon, located at 7991 on US Highway 90 West.
Burlingame and Cyphers moved to Texas in January. “COVID restrictions were really harsh in Massachusetts,” said Burlingame. “We came and checked out Austin and there were few restrictions so we moved here.”
“We had both grown up in Massachusetts and we decided that we needed to do something different to really push ourselves,” Cyphers said.
Simon Nash, the other visiting comedian, moved to Austin from Florida six months ago. “I just wanted to do something different, it was something new in a bigger city. When you have a bigger city, you have bigger opportunities,” Nash said.
Burlingame and Cyphers saw moving to Austin as the change up they needed, so they were residing in a new zip code weeks after their visit.
Most of their performing has been in Austin with a few shows outside of the city’s skyscrapers, however, Del Rio will be their first in Southwest Texas.
“We accepted the Del Rio gig with no hesitation,” Cyphers said.
“Paid stage time, we are in,” Burlingame said.
However, Burlingame isn’t real sure how his Mini Cooper will fit in among the big pick up trucks that populate local roads.
Tickets can be purchased at KDLK, located at 107 Center Drive, LoneStar Vitality as well as Ya’ll Come Saloon.
