Walk the Walk for Mental Health Awareness is a community health resource fair taking place at Lt Thomas Romanelli Memorial Park on Saturday, June 10 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The event is hosted by the Community Health Improvement Coalition – Del Rio Mental Health Committee – to bring awareness to mental health.
The event will begin with a non-competitive exercise called Walk the Walk, where attendees will walk from the Dr Fermin Calderon Boulevard overpass and end at Romanelli Park. Everyone who participates in the Walk the Walk will receive a finisher medal.
There will be other activities including a free yoga session by Rev Cycling Studio, a free meditation area and group painting with Andrea Alexandrina Lopez (Andy Art).
Claudia Lopez Cruz, board member of the CHIC, said this first-time event is to introduce people to different resources and activities that can help support mental health and release stress.
“We want to test the waters to see how Del Rio is going to react to the event and just grow from there,” Cruz said.
Booths will be set up for the resource fair to promote other group organizations including SCAN, West Texas Counseling and Guidance, and Southwest Texas Junior College. Cruz said other groups and organizations are still able to sign up and bring their own booths to promote themselves.
Registration for the Walk the Walk will begin at 8 a.m. with the main event starting at 8:30 a.m., and the other activities will continue to 11 a.m. along with music by DJ Sammy.
