Community — Del Rio Parks Foundation celebrates 10 years and seeks new leadership to guide the next phase of growth

Del Rio Parks Foundation press release

This April, the Del Rio Parks Foundation proudly celebrates 10 years of enhancing the community’s quality of life through open space and park improvement projects. Founded in April 2015, the Foundation has made a lasting impact on Del Rio by creating and improving parks, green spaces, and community gathering spots, as well as hosting educational events and being an advocate for local projects.

To mark this milestone, the Foundation’s board of directors is organizing a 10-Year Anniversary Gala on October 4th. The event will bring together community members, past and present contributors, and local businesses to celebrate a decade of accomplishments and to look ahead to future growth.

Since its founding, the Del Rio Parks Foundation has spearheaded numerous projects, including:

  • Del Rio Community Garden
  • Del Rio Community Dog Park
  • Amistad Urban Oasis
  • Del Rio Skate Park

Looking to the future, the Foundation has set an ambitious goal: to build or improve 10 parks and greenways by 2033, ensuring that every Del Rio resident has access to quality outdoor spaces.

As the Foundation enters this next chapter, it is seeking new leadership to carry its mission forward. The organization is looking for a leader with a deep passion for its mission, a strong desire to lead a team of dedicated board members, and the vision to continue driving meaningful initiatives that positively impact the Del Rio community.

Founder, former President, and current Vice President Laura Gill Vasconcellos reflected on the milestone:

“I am incredibly proud of what the organization has accomplished over the past 10 years. I know there is endless potential for us to continue making a meaningful impact on the Del Rio community in the next decade, and with the right leadership, we’ll be able to realize our goals.”

Current Trails Committee Lead Jake Carsten echoed the call for new talent:

“The strength of any organization is its leadership. As current leadership prepares to pass the reins, I’m excited to see the new energy and ideas that will shape the next chapter of the Del Rio Parks Foundation.”

Open positions also include a Fundraising and Grants Manager, a Community Manager, and positions on all of the Foundation’s committees.

The Foundation’s upcoming projects include expanding citywide hiking and biking trails, improving existing parks, and deepening engagement with the Del Rio Community Garden and local food systems education.

To join the next chapter of the Del Rio Parks Foundation, apply for a board position and learn more about the Foundation’s work at delrioparksfoundation.com/board or contact Laura at 612-850-5619.
