With Easter around the corner, Easter egg hunts and other family events are taking place around Del Rio.
The festivities kicked off Friday with the Del Rio Police Department’s second annual Easter Egg Hunt, held at Camp Del Rio along the San Felipe Creek.
Another Easter egg hunt was held at Greenwood Park today and was hosted by the Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars.
George Avalos, commander of VFW, said they had a successful turnout in 2023, and this year the VFW had free hot dogs and drinks provided by HTeaO. Avalos said there were also gift cards inside the eggs for treats from local businesses, including Sharky’s Shaved Ice and Mr Gatti’s Pizza.
On Sunday March 24, the Gather & Glorify Eggstravaganza will be held at 3 p.m. at Buena Vista Park.
The event was created by local businessman Andy Mitchell, and he said the event is being held on Palm Sunday so kids can learn about why Easter is celebrated.
A sermon will be given by preacher Scott Fooshee from First Christian Church. Mitchell said the event also will have an Easter egg hunt, a bouncy castle, children’s games and free food.
The city of Del Rio is again offering free overnight camping in city parks for the Easter holiday, a tradition with many Del Rio families. According to the city’s social media announcement, overnight camping in city parks may be done from March 29 through March 31, and parks rules apply.
On Saturday March 30, there will be Easter Eggstravaganza at Camp Del Rio. This event is put together by Del Rioan George Oliva, and he said his Easter egg hunt focuses on allowing kids to participate in different age groups.
“The main purpose of the hunt is so that the smaller kids have the time to get what they need to get, and the other kids will still have fun too but they will do it within their age group,” Oliva said.
The first group will start at noon, and prizes from the hunt include skateboards, plush animals and other toys and candy.
Also on Saturday, March 30, another Easter egg hunt will take place at 9 a.m. at Walmart, 2410 Dodson Ave. The hunt will be in the back of the building and kids can win gift baskets.
Although the 830 Team tried to pull together an all-encompassing Easter Egg hunt list, we know we missed some. Please feel free to post any we missed under this story on the Facebook link.
